People are usually shocked by where an adorable puppy in a pet store comes from, an inhumane puppy mill.

What They Are[]

Puppy Mills are places that mass breed dogs for profit. The conditions in puppy mills are very poor and the dogs living in them are neglected.

Life in a Puppy Mill[]

Mother dogs spend their entire life in a small cage and get very little personal attention, continually breeding with no rest. When the dogs can no longer breed, they are abandoned or killed, usually by being shot.

Stop Puppy Mills

Due to the lack of sanitation and little veterinary care, puppies from puppy mills frequently suffer from a variety of health issues.

Trivia[]

  • There is an estimated 10,000 active puppy mills in the United States.
  • More than 194,000 dogs are kept for breeding in USDA-licensed facilities. Sadly, a license is not a guarantee of a breeder’s quality.
  • Two million puppies originating from puppy mills are sold each year while shelter dogs are euthanized.
